About floorcloths

In the days before carpets, canvas from the sails of sailing ships were decorated and used as floor coverings, called floorcloths. There has been a resurgence in their popularity as they are ideally suited to today’s hectic lifestyle, and extremely practical for hallways, bedrooms, kitchens, foyers or family rooms, as they are non allergenic, durable and easy to keep clean.

The simple, individual beauty of our versatile, hand-painted floorcloths provides an elegant and practical solution to floor or window covering while enhancing your home and lifting your spirit.

All original designs and artwork are hand painted by local artist/healer Deborah Meltzer. With over 16 years in production, we guarantee the finest quality and craftsmanship and, above all, your satisfaction and enjoyment.

NEW! Make your own Floorcloth

Due to the many requests we have had for DIY from local residents, we are now offering classes in St Helena Bay. This will be a monthly Saturday workshop demonstrating different techniques and hands on experience to create your own mat. Materials will be supplied if necessary. All welcome.
Contact us for more info.
We look forward to meeting you!

How are the mats made?

We use acrylic paint on heavy primed canvas, and then paint several layers with hypo allergic sealer to give either a gloss or mat finish that is very durable, water and fade resistant.

Cleaning is very easy. Just wipe with a damp cloth, no harsh chemicals to be used. Great floor cover for covered patios, verandas, and beach homes.

Please note:

NOT FOR PERMANENT OUTDOOR USE, but okay to take along as a roll up mat for beach or picnic.
